Australian billionaire businessman and Chairman of shipping company Blue Star Line, Professor Clive Palmer, declared to the world in April 2012 his intention to build Titanic II after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with state-owned Chinese company CSC Jinling Shipyard.
In December 2012 he announced he will bring the Titanic II World Tour and road show to Macau, including a black tie Gala Dinner at The Venetian for more than 500 guests.
Professor Palmer said while Titanic was not scheduled to visit China or Asia, Titanic II’s ties with China will be significant.
“I have commissioned CSC Jinling Shipyard to build and coordinate the construction of Titanic II in China,” he said.
“This signifies the future relationship between Titanic II and China, as Titanic II offers a tremendous opportunity for CSC Jinling to showcase their abilities and grow their business, as well as establish China in the luxury cruise ship market.”
Professor Palmer said Titanic will be remembered when guests meet to enjoy the same lavish eleven course menu as first class passenger did on April 14, 1912.
“Guests to the dinner will receive free entry to Titanic the Exhibition, which is currently visiting The Venetian,” he said.
Titanic the Exhibition features highly-detailed and accurate replicas of 400 artefacts recovered from Titanic’s wreckage and housed in galleries to resemble various iconic sections of the ship.
Titanic the Exhibition at The Venetian Macau takes visitors of all ages through key milestones in the ship’s timeless story, from its conception and construction, to life on board the ship, the ill-fated sinking and the wreckage, as well as sharing the incredible stories of its passengers and crew.
He said the Titanic II gala dinner and road show in Macau will also take guests on a journey remembering and honouring the original vessel,” he said.
“Not only do we want to take our dinner guests through an extraordinary journey of culinary delight, first class elegance and entertainment, we also want our guests to know that the relationship between Titanic II and China is an important one,” Professor Palmer said.
“Titanic II, upon completion, is scheduled to set sail from China to Southampton in 2016 before commencing her maiden passenger voyage from Southampton to New York along her original route.”
Titanic II has captured the world’s imagination since Professor Palmer announced that his shipping company, Blue Star Line, would recreate the famous ship in honour of the 100 year anniversary of the launch and untimely fate of The Titanic. While every bit as luxurious as her namesake, Titanic II will have every modern amenity along with 21st century technology and the latest navigation and safety systems.
