The international naval efforts to counter Somali pirates scored a couple wins in the last 48 hours. First a Russian Black Sea fleet vessel stopped a hijacking attempt on a Russian-flagged tanker in the Red Sea on Monday. And then early Tuesday, the EU anti-piracy force thwarted an attack on the Norwegian Chemical tanker MV BOW SAGA as it traveled through the Gulf of Aden. The sailors who responded to the MV BOW SAGA's distress call also apprehended seven suspected pirates.
Unfortunately, the world's navies can't win them all and on Monday Somali pirates were successful in hijacking the Panama-flagged MV Suez cargo ship with 23 crew on board in the Gulf of Aden.
