The passenger/vehicle ferry service linking the South Wales port of Swansea and Rosslare in the Republic of Ireland is to finally resume in March 2010 following the purchase of the former Baltic ferry Julia by newly established Fastnet Line.
Fastnet Line has been established by the West Cork Tourism Co-operative and the ferry bought for €7.8m. Julia has been laid-up in Kotka, Finland since the summer of 2008 following the failure of her then owners’, Finland’s Stella Lines, for its new service linking St. Petersburg and Helsinki.
The ferry will be renamed Innisfallen and re-start the Swansea-Cork link on 1 March 2010. She is capable of carrying 1,860 passengers, 530 cars and 130 lorries.
