Three new passenger/vehicle ferries required by the Transportation Department of Washington State in the US will be built by Todd Pacific Shipyards in Seattle.
The three new ferries, each capable of carrying 64 cars, are part of Washington State Ferries fleet modernisation programme for its Port Townsend-Keystone route, in which four new vessels were required. The existing vessels on this service were withdrawn in 2007 after being declared unfit due to corrosion. Todd Pacific is already building the first ferry, which is scheduled for delivery in 2010.
