Nigeria's main militant group, the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta or MEND, on Sunday (10/25) declared an indefinite ceasefire in its battle for a larger share of Nigeria's oil wealth.
While MEND has threatened renewed attacks on Nigeria's oil infrastructure since a government offered amnesty expired earlier this month, Nigerian officials consider MEND to be greatly reduced in strength, because many key members accepted the amnesty offer and denounced the militant organization.
