Gov't Awards Contracts for Recycling Two WWII Era Ships

The U.S. Transportation Department announced on Thursday (10/22) that the Maritime Administration (MARAD) will soon begin to clean up and recycle obsolete vessels at the Suisun Bay Reserve Fleet (SBRF) in San Francisco. The first contracts have already been awarded to BAE Systems and All Star Metals, LLC.
Under the contracts, BAE will clean the WWII-era cargo ships, the Earlham Victory and Pan American Victory, before they are towed to Brownsville, Texas where All Star Metals will recycle them.
