Algeciras-Gibraltar fast ferry starts operations

Barcelona-based shipping and logistics group Transcoma has started a new daily fast passenger-only ferry service between Algeciras, Spain and the British Crown Colony of Gibraltar.  The new service started on 15 October and is the first time that the two ports have been linked by a ferry service in 40 years.

Transcoma is operating the 22m, 150 passenger capacity newbuild catamaran Punta Europe II on the new service, which offers four return trips a day with a crossing time of just 20 mins.  The new ferry service is being aimed at workers who commute from Spain to Gibraltar, as well as tourists, as she has a glass bottom.
