UK cruise ports in major row

A major row has developed between the UK’s leading cruise ship port, ABP operated Southampton, and two much smaller cruise ports, Liverpool and Portsmouth, over the setting up of secrete pact by the two smaller cruise ports to lure away business from the much larger Southampton.

The accusation by the port of Southampton stems from a private email exchange, in which a member of staff at Portsmouth wrote that the port had no objections to Liverpool using the new council-funded facility at Pier Head to grow its cruises business. In return, Liverpool pledged its support to Portsmouth for any attempts to increase its cruises business.

In 2009 Liverpool had 40 cruise ships calls; 25 at the Langton Cruise Terminal and 15 at Pier Head, and Portsmouth 22 calls.  Southampton has ??? scheduled!

The port of Liverpool is owned and operated by Peel Ports Group, while the commercial port of Portsmouth is owned and operated by Portsmouth City Council.
