TUI aims to issue such reports every two years along with annual progress reports.
Based on the report, in 2012 TUI managed to reduce its fuel consumption by 3.7% per nautical mile expecting a further reduction of 5% this year.
The new Mein Schiff 3 is designed to feature an ideal energy management systems consuming 30% less energy than other cruise ships of similar dimensions.
The cruise line, which has also focused on reducing waste and recycling, in 2012 has seen an outstanding reduction of the amount of waste per passenger (27.8%).
Additionally, TUI's two operating ships reduced their total water consumption by 7.6%.
