Australian businessman and owner of Blue Star Cruise Line, Professor Clive Palmer has taken to Twitter and social media to praise South Korean acoustic guitarist Sungha Jung for his performance at the recent Titanic II launch in New York.
The black-tie gala event was held on board retired aircraft carrier USS Intrepid where a who’s who of world leaders, senior diplomats and major political figures were treated to a lavish 11-course menu, first class entertainment and the unveiling of Titanic II blueprints.
Professor Palmer was so impressed with Mr Jung’s performance on the night that he uploaded a video of his performance to social network site Vimeo.
He described Mr Jung’s rendition of My Heart Will Go On as “wonderful” on Twitter and shared a link to his performance in New York.
Sungha Jung has won fifteen awards on YouTube and as of April of this year has had over 654 million views on his channel and 1, 576, 000 subscribers.
Mr Palmer said he had chosen 17 year old Sungha Jung to perform in New York to show his support for young, emerging talent.
“Sungha Jung’s ability to captivate and enthral millions of viewers from his YouTube videos is tantamount to not only his musical talent but also his reference to both classical and modern pieces,” he said.
“Sungha’s performance in New York was outstanding and I encourage everyone to take a look at the video from the night.”
Following his performance on the night, Mr Jung tweeted, “Thank you professor Clive Palmer!!”
Mr Jung said the Titanic II launch was an amazing experience and one he would never forget.
“I was a little bit nervous before I went on stage because I was performing in front of such an important audience,” he said.
“The whole night was a great experience and I’m really grateful that Mr Palmer asked me to perform.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the Titanic II in its final stage of completion and hope I can perform on board the replica.”
Other entertainers at the Gala included Glenn Shorrock, an iconic Australian singer-songwriter who was a founding member of pop groups The Twilights, Axiom and Little River Band, and up and coming singer/songwriter Roxy Darr.

Titanic II has captured the world’s imagination since Professor Palmer announced that his shipping company, Blue Star Line, would recreate the famous ship in honour of the 100 year anniversary of the launch and untimely fate of The Titanic. While every bit as luxurious as her namesake, Titanic II will have every modern amenity along with 21st century technology and the latest navigation and safety systems.
