The expedition vessel Clelia II arrived back in Ushuaia, Argentina, early Dec. 10. Travel Dynamics International of New York, which operated the vessel, were on hand to meet the ship at the dock.
Disembarkation of passengers was planned for the morning of Dec. 10, although some passengers might stay aboard until Dec. 11, depending on homebound flight arrangements.
On its trip back to port, normal communication systems on Clelia II remained out of service. However, the ship was in touch with shore through the use of Iridium phone systems, and was also being continuously monitored through a vessel-tracking program operated by the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO). Other IAATO vessels in the Drake Passage also monitored the progress of Clelia II, should additional assistance be required.
Further information provided by Travel Dynamics International identified the crew member initially injured as a Bulgarian bridge officer who was knocked down when the wave broke the starboard window. He has resumed normal duties.
Travel Dynamics International confirms that the next scheduled voyage to the Antarctic Peninsula, which was intended to depart Dec. 8 has been cancelled. A Lloyds Register surveyor is in Ushuaia to inspect the ship on arrival, along with a team from Harris Corp., which will survey electrical systems.
