The International Cruise Council Australasia has appointed Gavin Smith as Chairman following its Annual General Meeting in Sydney.
Managing Director for Royal Caribbean in Australia, Mr Smith replaces outgoing Chairman, Karen Christensen, Silversea Regional Director Australia and New Zealand.
Gavin Smith said the Cruise Council had boosted its profile within the cruise industry and the Australian public in the past few years.
“As cruising becomes a favourite holiday option with more Australians each year, I’m looking forward to playing a more active role within the Council and helping drive this growth further,” he said.
The rest of the Board remained the same including APT CEO Chris Hall as Treasurer, Travel the World Managing Director Andrew Millmore as Deputy Chairman Membership and Marketing, Complete Cruise Solution Director of Sales Don Clark as Deputy Chairman Training and Viking River Cruises Managing Director Australia/New Zealand Teresia Fors as Secretary.
Council General Manager Brett Jardine welcomed the new Chairman and said he was keen to work with the Board to continue to boost the profile of the Council and the Australasian cruise industry.
“Cruise capacity continues to expand both locally and internationally, and with visiting ships boosting consumer interest in cruise holidays all around Australia, there’s never been a better time for travel agents to ensure they’re cruise-wise,” Mr Jardine said.
The International Cruise Council Australasia is a not-for-profit organisation formed in 1996, committed to training travel consultants and raising consumer awareness of cruising.
