220 ships are expected to transit through the Panama Canal during the coming cruise season


It's that time of year again, when the the Panama Canal cruise ship winter season 2015-2016 officially starts. According to official sources overall around 220 cruise ships are expected to transit through the Panama Canal during this coming cruise season (between October 2015 - April 2016).

This time round it all begins on the 3rd of October 2015 with the transit of the Costa Luminosa, which is part of it's grand world cruise. The following mega Cruise Lines will offer itineraries of 10 or more days, including the awe inspiring Panama Canal as part of the overall cruise experience.
  • Holland America Line
  • Princess Cruises
  • Celebrity Cruise Line
  • Norwegian Cruise Line
Additionally, smaller cruise ships will also pass through the majestic canal with shorter 7-8 cruises along the west coast of Central America. Ships include:
  • National Geographic 
  • Sea Lion
  • Star Breeze
Later in the cruise season long establishd luxury liners such as Hapag-Lloyd Cruises and Holland America Line will position ships to transit through the Panama Canal on fresh itineraries. For example:
  • The Pearl Mist (Hapag Lloyd) will transit on 16th of January 2016
  • The Nieuw Amsterdam (Holland America Line) will transit on 14th April 2016
With the rise in interest for round the world cruises, the Panama Canal is expecting to see a rise in traffic over the coming years.
