Alesund is expecting 213,354 passengers (128 calls) next year compared to the 105,684 on 90 calls that were expected in 2011. As it turned out there were 87 calls and 93,301 passengers with this year showing 114 calls and 138,643 passengers visiting.

In June a new pier was opened having been extended by 200m to 570m during the winter months at a cost of NKr80m (E10.9m). The facility is multipurpose catering to factory trawlers in the winter and cruiseships in the summer.

In addition a new services building was constructed which includes tourist information, wifi, security and toilets.

The port can now accommodate two large vessels and one smaller one alongside. The extended pier allows for more ships to call.

The numbers however will be regulated by the number of buses, guides etc that are available for shore excursions, explained Bente Saxon, manager public relations and cruise at Destination Alesund & Sunnmore.
