The Government of Puerto Rico aims to facilitate the development of the local Maritime Industry by approving a package of incentives. Puerto Rico hopes for an increase of the cruise ship passengers arriving at the island.
The incentives include a 10% discount on goods and services purchased by cruise lines as well as a reduction on the per-passenger fee for a portion of the arrivals to the island through 2017.
The package is good news for Cruise Lines as well as it contains a subsidy for companies that use Puerto Rico as a home port for their ships.
Following the huge upgrade of the main port in San Juan now getting more than 1 million cruise passengers a year, the government sees potential for further growth.
