Lyngdal joins Cruise Europe and waives port charges for three years

Submitted by CE-Press

From next year the Port of Lyngdal will be the main port of call for the region which encompasses Lyngdal, Lindesnes, Farsund and Flekkefjord. With no bookings to date, it is exempting cruiselines from port charges for three years from January 2013.

Lyngdal is located between Stavanger and Kristiansand in Norway. The sailing distance from the coastline to the anchorage is about 10km.

The port is a tender port with no restriction on the size of vessel that can anchor, according to Nils Otto Eriksen, marketing manager Small City Cruises. From the pontoon where the tenders come in, the pier leads to a boardwalk and beach, Rosfjord Strandhotel, an outdoor restaurant, Sorlandsbadet Water Park and the buses.

A free shuttle bus will be provided into the city centre which is only 15 minutes on foot.

Between 2009 to 2011 about 15,000 British, German, French and Dutch passengers called at the Port of Farsund but from next year, all calls will be focused on the Lyngdal Fjord approach and the Port of Lyngdal.

Excursions range from two and a half to four hours in length and can be offered before or after lunch. Tours range from rafting in RIBs direct from the cruiseship towards the ocean to visiting the Lindesnes Lighthouse and Experience Centre to Farsund Resort with lobster safari. Individuals can hire cycles, play golf, go-kart and more.
