Summer greetings from Iceland Travel!
We are delighted to announce that our hotly anticipated, (100% all-in-house produced!!) environmental awareness video is now pimped, primed and ready for viewing.
The idea to produce a video came about following a staff meeting held earlier this year during which the environmental officer from the Icelandic Tourist Board, Mr. Sveinn R. Traustason, was invited to discuss the potential negative impact of high volume cruise passenger traffic on Iceland’s fragile nature.
The message is short and sweet, and is readily applied to cruise destinations world-wide, not just Iceland.
We hope that you will join us in helping raise cruise passengers' environmental awareness during their time shoreside, and to please forward this message to anyone that you think might be able to help spread the word - for example, shore excursion teams (on land and sea), port presenters, tour escorts etc.
The message contained in the video is as follows:
* please take all litter back on the coaches with you
* please keep wildlife undisturbed and vegetation undamaged
* please keep to the marked walking paths
We figured it would take something special to grab your attention, and went all out to prove our "eco-worth" as you will see in the captivating footage of our recent team hike up the fast retreating 1,446m Snæfellsjökull glacier.
Along with being an unfortunate victim and stark reminder of the effects of global warming, the glacier is also the scene of Jules Verne's Journey to the Centre of the Earth and is easily accessible from the port of Grundarfjordur.
Many believe the glacier to be one of the world's seven largest energy sources, and the summer solstice sees New Agers flocking to the area to charge their crystals and positive energy supplies.
The Snæfellsnes peninsula is also an Earth Check Member and as such, we considered it to be the ideal location to host our action packed Eco Focused Video!
Throw in a spoof/cruise-speak version of the Nancy Sinatra 1960's classic - and we hope to have found an original and entertaining way in which to gain your much appreciated attention.
Are you ready boots..?
Start walkin'..!
Enjoy...and thank you
