Italy to Get Help with Influx of Tunisian Immigrants

Lonely Planet Tunisia (Country Guide)
Feb 15, 2011 — Since the political upheaval in Tunisia last month, Italy has been dealing with an influx of thousands of Tunisian immigrants arriving in southern Italy, including on the tiny island of Lampedusa.
Rome has asked the transitional Tunisian government as well as the European Union for cooperation in dealing with the problem. Now after weeks of negotiations, both Tunisia and Frontex - the EU border agency - have agreed to assist Italy to counter the illegal Tunisian immigration.
According to a report (link below) from Italy's Adnkronos International, Frontex will supply personnel, and surveillance boats and aircraft. And if the Tunisian government accepts an accord signed Monday, Italy will give Tunisia boats and radar equipment to help patrol its coastline.
