Gaza Strip: Iranian Aid Ships to Challenge Israel's Gaza Blockade

Jun 7, 2010 — The Iranian chapter of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies said on Monday that it plans to send three aid ships to Gaza in the a bid to break the Israeli maritime blockade. Two ships are schedule to leave for the Mediterranean this week, while a third will set sail at some later date.
While the Red Crescent's decision alone sets up a potential conflict between arch-enemies Israel and Iran, things could quickly escalate if Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards decide to make good on the promise to escort the Gaza aid ships.
